Ellwood Explorers
Ellwood Explorers is the Ellwood House Museum’s youth event series, designed to spark curiosity and creativity in kids and families! Once a month, we invite young explorers to join us for a free, hands-on program in the beautiful Ellwood Park.
Each session will offer something new, from nature walks and scavenger hunts to art activities and interactive storytelling. Families can enjoy time together outdoors while discovering the sights, sounds, and history that make Ellwood Park so special.
Thank you for making the 2025 season a success! We can’t wait to welcome you back in 2026.
Our full schedule will be announced soon, and all programs take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Frame of Mind
“Frame of Mind” is a collaborative program between the Ellwood House Museum, DeKalb County K-12 schools, and local businesses. Now in its third year, this program gives students from across the county a unique opportunity to showcase their artwork in a professional setting while building stronger community connections. Student artists are celebrated with an opening reception and a month long exhibition.
Throughout the school year, teachers are encouraged to gather student artwork for submission to Frame of Mind. All schools in DeKalb County are encouraged and invited to participate. Ellwood House Museum staff will assemble a jury to select at least one piece from each grade level to be framed and featured in an exhibit in the historic 1898 Ellwood-Nehring House. After the exhibit, county businesses will have the opportunity to “rent” the pieces for a one-year period to be displayed in their lobbies, offices, or stores. Artwork will be returned to students at the end of the loan period.
More than just an art show—it’s an opportunity to offer young artists a chance to shine in a professional environment, and connect local businesses with the creativity coming out of DeKalb County.
