Photography and Videography Policy
We welcome and encourage guests to take photos and videos during their visit to the Ellwood House Museum. Share your experience on social media using #EllwoodHouseMuseum or tag us @ellwoodhousemuseum to help others discover the beauty and history of our site.
To ensure the preservation of our historic collections, grounds, and the safety of all visitors, please follow the photography and filming guidelines outlined below.
Outdoor Policies
Professional and personal photography and videography sessions are permitted and encouraged on the Ellwood House Museum campus. No permits are required for these shoots as the Ellwood House Museum is located on a public park.
This extends to all gardens, green spaces, exteriors of buildings, and the wooded area.
Any day-long or expansive photography sessions should be disclosed to Ellwood House staff at least 1-week prior to the event taking place. Staff can be contacted at 815-756-4609 or info@ellwoodhouse.org
No photo props are permitted that may leave a trace, including but not limited to: confetti, sequins, glitter, artificial flower petals, rice, birdseed, paint, color smoke bombs, and hay/straw bales
Real flowers/flower petals, bubbles, and easily biodegradable materials (leaves, recycled paper, etc.) are allowed as long as they are disposed of properly.
No decorations or props can be attached to any building exteriors.
No decorations or props can be inserted or added into flower beds.
Any decorations, props, or personal affects (water bottles, corsage/boutonniere wrappings, etc.) should be removed and/or disposed of properly following any photography sessions.
Littering on park grounds is not permitted and will not be tolerated in accordance to DeKalb City Ordinance 43.08 and Dekalb Park District Park Code Section 8.34
Hours of park use are sunrise to sunset.
Ellwood House Museum tours, events, and rentals take precedence over any private or professional photography sessions.
Photographers should be mindful of the time of day/year they anticipate sessions taking place, as events such as local prom weekends, wedding season, and various celebrations may impact the availability of parking and space usage on the Ellwood House campus.
Photographers are encouraged to reach out to Ellwood House Staff if they have any questions regarding shoot times or date availability. Staff can be reached at 815-756-4609 or info@ellwoodhouse.org
